SJPC inked an EPC Deal with TSK (SPAIN) to set up a 190MW Power Plant in OLD HARBOUR

South Jamaica Power Company (SJPC) has accomplished the signing of an agreement for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) work intended for the development of a new power generation facility on 3rd Feb 2017

SJPC, a subsidiary of the Jamaica Public Service Company, has signed the EPC contract with Spain-based TSK to set up a 190MW energy plant at Old Harbour Bay in St Catherine.

SJPC has disclosed in a statement today that the power plant project will entail an estimated investment of around US$330 million. Addressing people at the deal signing ritual, the SJPC General Manager Dan Theoc has stated that the new 190MW power generation station will allow a further addition of Natural Gas to the fuel mix.

Theoc added, The last [base load] power plant to be built by JPS was in 2003. The official has also stressed on the recent conversion of the Montego Bay-based Bogue Power Plant to Natural Gas.

The company’s GM added This plant will be even more significant to the energy landscape in terms of both size and impact. According to the light and power firm, the power plant work will be accomplished by early 2019.

SJPC has disclosed that the new facility, upon completion, will deliver crucial cleaner fuel to Jamaica to facilitate the island nation diversify its fuel mix as well as help it to decommission the ageing Old Harbour Bay power plant.
